How to Install the New GS4 Version of S-Voice on Your Samsung Galaxy S3

The new Samsung Galaxy S4 now is becoming increasingly available around the world and we're going to begin seeing many more of its software features leak out. While we wait for major software leaks and updates for things like the GS4 camera and the next iteration of Jelly Bean (Android 4.2), some features are available now, such as S-Translator, S-Voice. Good news to Galaxy S3 users, here I will show you how to install the New GS4 Version of S-Voice on Your Samsung Galaxy S3.

Note: This will install over the current S-Voice app and the .apk file works on both my Galaxy S3 and Nexus 4.

Step 1: Enable Outside Applications
Go to Settings -> Security and make sure to check "Unknown Sources"

Step 2: Download and Install S-Voice
Download the S4 version of S-Voice app right here. You can download this directly to your GS3 or transfer it from your computer. From there, install as you would any other app.

If for any reason you want to revert back to the standard S-Voice, simply go to Settings -> Application Manager and slide to "All", then scroll down and select "S-Voice". Now just hit the "Uninstall updates" button and you should be good.

The New S-Voice Features
You may find it's hard to know what's different here. There is a new weather widget (nice!), and a bunch of new tasks.

Unfortunately, the new S-Voice app stills have no "Note to self" functionality.

Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. HTC One: Battle of the 2013 Flagship Smartphones

Which phone is the best android smartphone 2013? Samsung Galaxy S4 or HTC One? In terms of smartphone quality, the difference between HTC and Samsung is minor. The HTC One and Galaxy S4 both boast impressive specs and some of the most innovative technology currently available, but can we determine which the better phone is? Which Smartphone is right for you? Let’s compare them and decide if you have a phone plan.

Size

The Galaxy S4 and One are roughly the same height. The One, though, is 2 mm narrower and about 18 percent thicker.

Build materials

While the Galaxy S4 is made of plastic, the anodized aluminum HTC one may set a new benchmark for smartphone design. With that said, many customers prefer plastic to metal in a phone, so you might want to experiment on your own to find your preference.

Weight

HTC one weighs 143 grams and The Galaxy S4 is over 9 percent lighter than the One.

Display

Both phones have absurdly-sharp 1080p displays. Compared to HTC One’s 4.7inch screen, Galaxy S4’s screen is a bit larger, which features a 5-inch screen. The Galaxy S4's display uses Super AMOLED technology, while the One sports a Super LCD 3 screen. Expect some hyper-saturated colors in the S4.

Processor

Both versions of the Galaxy S4 should be faster than the One. But as high-end smartphone engines have outpaced the performance requirements of most apps, right now the difference may not show anywhere but in benchmarks.

RAM

Both handsets are power with 2 GB of random-access memory (RAM) to make sure device runs smoothly.

Storage

The base model of the One doubles the internal flash memory of the base Galaxy S4. But Samsung’s handset makes up for it with an expandable microSD card slot.

Wireless

If your local carrier supports LTE, both phones should be able to take advantage of the speedy network.

Battery

The Galaxy S4 features a removable 2,600 mAh Li-Ion battery and the HTC One features a non-removable 2,300 mAh Li-Polymer battery.

Cameras

On paper, this looks like utter dominance for the Galaxy S4. But the notion that megapixel count is an absolute and direct measurement of camera quality is misguided. HTC’s One may demonstrate this better than any other smartphone. The company put less pixels in the phone's sensors, but the pixels are bigger (HTC calls them “Ultrapixels”). The One also has f2.0 aperture and a 1/3-inch backlit-CMOS sensor, which HTC says will mean better performance in low light.

Software

In terms of Software, Samsung galaxy s4 runs on the latest 4.2.2 operating system, ahead of the HTC One.

Much more obvious, though, are the custom manufacturer UIs sitting on top of Android. Samsung is pushing its TouchWiz as hard as it can, trying to distance itself from Google’s underlying OS. This means a ton of “innovative new features” that are almost overwhelming to recap, such as Air Hover (preview select tasks by hovering your finger over the display), Dual Camera (combine front-facing and rear-facing stills or video), and Smart Scroll (scroll through emails and web pages via facial recognition). They might be more gimmicky than revolutionary, but you have to hand it to Samsung for trying new ideas.

HTC’s new Sense 5, meanwhile, scales itself back a bit. While it previously succumbed to feature creep (which Samsung may now be stepping into), the One’s version of Sense simplifies things a bit.
One of Sense’s more memorable features is Blinkfeed, which puts a Flipboard-like news hub on your homescreen. In addition to the familiar grid of app icons, your phone greets you with a tiled view of social and news feeds.

Bottom Line
The Galaxy S 4 is a wonderful device. I doubt many will “regret” buying it. It's jam-packed with new camera features, it's fast, and it has all-day battery life. Beyond all that, its software enhancements – not those gimmicky waving and tilting ones, but the other ones -- make it standout among all other Android phones and even the iPhone.

But on the other hand, I just wish Samsung had put that same attention into the design of the physical phone. The HTC One and the iPhone 5 are simply better-designed and crafted pieces of hardware. So which is your choice? Welcome to share your comments below.

Google I/O 2013: Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, New Nexus 7, Motorola X and more

The big conference Google I/O 2013 is happening next month and will run from 15 -17 May. Last year, Google introduced the Nexus 7, Android 4.1 Jellybean, the now-abandoned Nexus Q and a lot more. Now rumors said the next Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, next-gen Nexus 7 and more exciting things will announced. So today let’s jump right into our guesses and hopes for what we’ll see at Google’s biggest conference of the year.

1.  Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie

Whatever else Google announces, nothing will grab the headlines like the next major version of Android.
But the techies all agree that Google will probably just give Android followers a peek at the new OS since the current Android 4.2v update is not yet available on many devices yet. We didn’t see a major update in UI with Android 4.1 or 4.2 from Android 4.0, so if Google is going to release the Android 5.0, it will be refined, polished, and smooth — and it will be fast in order to compete with Apple!

2.  New Nexus 7

Google introduced to the Nexus 7 tablet at the last I/O, so it wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a new version-running Android 5, maybe. According to news from BGR, the Nexus 7.7 will have a Tegra 4 processor, a 7.7-inch, 1,920 x 1,200-pixel display, 8GB of storage, and both front and rear high-def cameras. 3G service and a price tag within the range of $149 to $199. Rumours said it would have an expanded screen size of 8 inches to rival the iPad Mini and Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

3.  Lower Price for the Original Nexus 7

It is logical to expect a lower price for the original Nexus 7 once its old brother is released. Among the anticipated price tags for this device at $149, $129 and $99.  

4.  Motorola X Phone

Sticking with the mobile space, Google I/O 2013 may also witness the debut of the mythical Motorola X, the superphone Google is said to be working on ever since it completed the Motorola acquisition. The company is said to be throwing everything it's got at this new halo device, which is why it may not be ready in time for I/O. If it is, expect it to be the star of the show.

5.  Nexus 5

Google Nexus 4 has made a big success and has been selling out in stores across the U.S. But in order to compete better with the new Galaxy S4, HTC One and iPhone 5, Google need to update the Nexus 4, namely the Nexus 5. The Nexus 5 is expected boost an improved processor, camera and LTE support and so on.

6.  Google Glass

Glass was laughed off by many as a pipe dream when it was unveiled at I/O last year, but 12 months on these smart glasses are gathering significant momentum. With competition winners having already received their Google Glass samples, we expect I/O 2013 to provide significant updates regarding retail availability and app developer programmers.  I suspect we’ll see Google Glass officially announced as a consumer product at I/O 2013 and available for sale within a few months following the conference.

7.  Google Now

At last year’s Google I/O we saw Google’s answer to Siri: Google Now. Since then we’ve seen a few updates and to Google Now that have added features and functionality, but many in the industry are suspicious about why we haven’t seen more. I think Google’s been holding back on us and we’ll see a rush of new features for Google Now that will blow us away. What’s more, we’ll probably see Google Now for iOS demo’d.

8.  Google Babble

Babble is expected to unite Chat, Talk, Voice and Google Plus communication into a single service with the same conversations and features available everywhere. It seems the company has plans to go toe-to-toe with Apple’s iMessage and BlackBerry Messenger long term. Interestingly Babble is also said to incorporate notification syncing, a long overdue feature that dismisses notifications on all your devices once they are checked on one.

9.  Home Automation
It’s been a while since we heard about the ADK and Google’s push for home automation. This time around I suspect we’ll see some real-world products that can be easily controlled by your Android-powered phone or tablet. Either that or the ADK will fade into obscurity, never to be heard of again.

Samsung Galaxy S4 to go on sale in U.S. next week: When and Where to get

It is official, the highly anticipated followup to Samsung's Galaxy S3, the Galaxy S4, will finally go on sale next week at U.S. carriers, that is to say, the wait for the new phone will be over soon.  The powerful Samsung android phone will be available on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless as well as U.S. Cellular, Cricket and C Spire starting during April. Below are the details.

AT&T
You can now preorder an AT&T Galaxy S4 at att.com. The 16GB version will cost you $199.99 with a two-year contract. The 32GB version will cost $249.99. It will ship on April 30. If you don't want to sign a two-year contract, you can get the phone at a price of $639.99.

T-Mobile
You will be able to get T-Mobile's Galaxy S4 next week on April 24 through tmobile.com; it will be available at T-Mobile stores on May 1. The phone is available with T-Mobile's new "uncarrier" pricing. That means the phone costs just $149.99 up front, but you have to pay T-Mobile $20 a month for the next 24 months to pay off the rest of the phone.

Sprint
Sprint's Galaxy S4 launch day is April 27, though you will be able to pre-order the device on April 18. The 16GB version of the phone will start at $249.99 with a two-year contract. New Sprint customers can get the phone for $149.99 with a two year contract.

Verizon
Verizon hasn't released launch or pricing information for the phone. We will update this article when the carrier announces more information. Update: When: May, with exact date to come. You can sign up for updates here.

Other retailers
While you can get your Galaxy S4 straight from the carrier of your choice, you'll also be able to purchase it from Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile, Costco, Radio Shack, Sam’s Club, Staples, Target and Wal-Mart.

Walmart Stores, the world's largest retailer, will sell the AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile versions of the phone. The AT&T version will cost $168 with a two-year contract at Walmart. Walmart will also drop the price of the Verizon and AT&T Galaxy S3 to $39.88 with a two-year contract.

Staples will have the phone. You can pre-order now through Staples.com and it will have some carrier versions of it at 500 of its select mobile phone stores on April 26. The AT&T version will be available for $199.99 with a two-year contract at Staples on April 26. The T-Mobile version will be out on May 1 at the store.

The Galaxy S4 will be available in two colors, "Black Mist" and "White Frost," and offer a 1.9 GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and a full-HD Super AMOLED display (with a 1920 x 1080 resolution). It will come in 16GB and 32GB versions (though this can be expanded thanks to a microSD slot). In the front, there'll be a 2-megapixel camera and in the back there'll be a 13-megapixel beast.

The 5-inch device will run Android 4.2.2, better known as Jelly Bean, and have Samsung's latest TouchWiz "enhancements." Thanks to features such as Air Gesture and Air View, you'll be able to take actions without ever touching your smartphone's screen. (Just wave your hand or hover your finger over the display and watch what happens.) And if your hands are too busy, then you can just plain scroll through items by looking up or down.
